In the journey of life, challenges are inevitable. They test our resilience, adaptability, and determination, shaping our personal and professional growth. As I reflect on my own experiences, particularly my recent training in AWS Cloud Practitioner, I am reminded of the importance of embracing these challenges.

The Power of Continuous Learning

In February 2023, I took a bold step toward my future by enrolling in an AWS Cloud Practitioner training program. For me, this wasn’t just another course—it was an opportunity to transform my career and stand out in a competitive world. As a student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (BBA) at the University of Nicosia since October 2022, I knew that the business field was fiercely competitive. I needed something extra, something that would set me apart from others vying for the same opportunities.

Why AWS Cloud Practitioner?

The AWS Cloud Practitioner certification is a gateway to the booming world of cloud computing. It provides foundational knowledge of cloud concepts, AWS services, and best practices, making it an ideal starting point for anyone looking to enter this space. With cloud computing skills in high demand globally, this certification can open doors to roles like cloud support associate, financial analyst, or even technical program manager

What made this training even more special was that it was offered for free through sponsorship by the European Union and support from the Cyprus Computing Society. This opportunity allowed me to gain valuable knowledge without financial barriers—a privilege I deeply appreciated.

The Challenges of Being an Asylum Seeker

While the training was a significant milestone, my journey has been far from smooth. Living in Cyprus as an asylum seeker has presented unique challenges. For five years now, my case at the international protection court has been pending. This has left me with an ARC document as my primary form of identification—a document that unfortunately isn’t valid for registering for certification exams like AWS Cloud Practitioner.

Despite receiving two exam vouchers, one of which expires in February 2025, I’ve been unable to take the exam due to these legal and logistical barriers. The suggestion from the Cyprus Computing Society manager to wait until my case is resolved feels like a heavy weight on my aspirations. Yet, I refuse to let these circumstances define me or limit my potential.

Staying Committed to Learning

Rather than giving up, I’ve found creative ways to keep moving forward. I discovered a YouTube channel that offers quick revision techniques and AWS insights, which has been instrumental in helping me prepare efficiently. Additionally, I’ve been revisiting practice questions on Udemy to refresh my knowledge—especially after just completing my university exams last week.

This combination of cloud computing expertise and my BBA education is something I believe will make me unstoppable in the long run. Even without immediate access to certification, I’m equipping myself with skills that will serve me well when the time comes

A Message of Resilience

If there’s one lesson I’ve learned from this journey, it’s that resilience and faith are powerful tools for overcoming challenges. My circumstances may be difficult, but they don’t define who I am or what I’m capable of achieving. Every day, I remind myself that I am limitless—not because life is easy but because I choose not to give up on my dreams.

To anyone facing struggles in their life or career: don’t stop believing in yourself. Whether it’s legal hurdles, financial constraints, or self-doubt holding you back, know that your persistence will pay off. Pray for guidance and trust that there’s a way forward—even when it feels impossible.

Looking Ahead

The AWS Cloud Practitioner certification remains a goal I’m determined to achieve—not just for the credential but for what it represents: growth, perseverance, and hope for a brighter future. The cloud computing field is expanding rapidly, with opportunities growing every year. By staying committed to learning and pushing through obstacles, I know I’ll eventually reach my destination.

For now, I’ll continue preparing myself for the day when everything aligns—when legal barriers fall away and opportunities open up before me. Until then, I’ll keep moving forward with faith in my heart and determination in my spirit.

Let this be a reminder: no matter where you are or what you’re going through, your dreams are worth fighting for. Stay resilient. Stay inspired. And never stop believing in yourself
