Why I Chose a BBA: My Academic Aspirations and Goals

Choosing a degree is a major milestone for any student. For me, deciding to pursue a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) wasn’t just about following a trend or picking something practical, or earning a degree. It was a deep personal choice driven by my curiosity and aspirations. It was about unlocking opportunities to explore my interests, grow as an individual, and build my dreams for the future.

In this post, I’ll share why I chose a BBA, my academic aspirations, and the goals I hope to achieve on this journey. I’ll also ask you to reflect on your own academic or professional path—because we’re all learners in this fast-changing world.

Why a BBA?

I use to be a nurse but after being interested in my job, I decided to go through a carrier reconversion. For a while now , I was always intrigued by the way businesses worked. Whether it was a small café around the corner or a multinational corporation, I’d often wonder: How do they attract customers? What makes them successful? And how do you do the same?

When I started considering my options, I asked myself a simple question: What excites me about the future? The answer was clear: learning how businesses grow, create impact, and innovate.

This curiosity led me to explore topics like marketing and entrepreneurship long before I stepped into the University of Nicosia. But beyond that, I’ve always believed that business is more than just numbers—it’s about creativity, innovation, and connecting with people.

I mean look around you , business is everywhere—it’s in the brands we love, the technology we use, and the solutions that improve our daily lives. A BBA offered the chance to learn how these systems work while leaving room to specialize later. Plus, I’ve always been fascinated by entrepreneurship and wanted a degree that nurtures creativity and problem-solving.

My “Aha!” Moment

I vividly remember the day I finalized my decision. I have been listening to YouTube videos on the impact of digital marketing on small businesses and how it helped them survive during tough times like the Covid 19 pandemic. I realized that this is where I wanted to be—at the intersection of innovation and impact. A BBA would not only equip me with the skills to make a difference but also open doors to endless opportunities. Therefore, the decision wasn’t just about practicality, it was about aligning my studies with my passions and aspirations.

My Academic Aspirations

  1. Building a Strong Foundation
I want to immerse myself in the core principles of business—sales, marketing, economics, entrepreneurships  and beyond. For instance, I’m excited to learn how companies make data-driven decisions or how they develop products that customers love.
  2. Learning Through Experience
I want to be a learner who practices. Group projects, internships, and case studies are the areas in which I want to experiment. For example, I am looking forward to applying the theories of marketing and management, psychology in companies
  3. Embracing Technology

In today’s world, technology is reshaping every industry. I want to integrate tools such as AI and digital analytics into my distance learning to maximize my understanding of the courses and prepare me for the business world of tomorrow

My Goals Beyond the Classroom

  1. Starting My Own Business
Since studying the entrepreneurial concept, I’ve dreamed of starting my own business. I am particularly passionate about creating solutions in education and wellness. A BBA gives me the confidence and skills to make that vision a reality.
  2. Becoming a Leader
Leadership isn’t just about titles; it’s about inspiring and empowering others. Whether it’s leading a team in a class project or one day managing my own business, I want to develop the kind of leadership that creates meaningful change.
  3. Contributing to Society
Success, for me, isn’t just about profit—it’s about impact. I aspire to use my business knowledge to help others, whether through mentorship, social responsibility, or community-driven projects.

Challenges Along the Way

Of course, this journey is not without its challenges. Finding a balance between classes, personal development, my ambitions and my personal life can sometimes be overwhelming because I must remember that I am not so young anymore and I have a little girl in charge. There have been times when doubt creeps in: am I made for this? But each challenge teaches me resilience and reminds me why I started.
